Visceral manipulation is a fascinating and essential form of bodywork that focuses on treating the ‘whole person.’ It can be easily integrated into massage, deep tissue manipulation, and osteopathic treatment. This course promises to provide an enjoyable and engaging learning experience related to many treatable issues that clients may present.

We will address common somatic symptoms stemming from visceral origins. This approach is invaluable for evaluating, treating, and preventing various conditions related to digestive, thoracic, pre- and post-pregnancy, and urogenital issues. It is also essential to gently assess and treat organs and organ systems following trauma, illness, and surgery, underscoring the holistic nature of this practice.

When digestive disorders occur, it is essential to evaluate and treat the diaphragm, stomach, small intestines, colon, liver, and gallbladder. Common symptoms include referred pain patterns, diaphragm restrictions, liver and gallbladder disorders, hiatal hernia, gastritis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, ileocecal valve issues, colitis, and chronic constipation.

Understanding the relationship between the urogenital viscera and its influence on the spine, pelvic floor, and lower extremities is particularly important, as it highlights the interconnectedness of the body. Some common urogenital symptoms included in the course are ptosed (dropped) kidneys, bladder dysfunction, incontinence, hypersensitivity, prolapse, adhesions, dysmenorrhea, pelvic and abdominal pain, uterine retroversion and prolapse, prevention of obstetrical problems, and the visceral influence on circulatory issues, low back pain, and leg pain.

Some common thoracic conditions we will cover involve the lungs, such as pulmonary complications, pleural conditions, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The goal is to evaluate the position, anatomical relationships of the organs, their movement, and the functions of the organs and organ systems. It is my philosophy that as we normalize structure, function will follow.

Class time will be devoted to visceral treatment after trauma and to the evaluation and treatment of specific pediatric visceral presentations. Throughout the course, we will discuss and demonstrate the importance of the quality of touch.

A comprehensive workbook will complement the course. It includes essential lecture material, detailed photos, and illustrations of the various techniques discussed in class, serving as a valuable resource for your learning journey.
