We will explore the relationship between brain injuries, the traumatic stress response, the brainstem and the optic nerve. The eyes are extensions of the optic nerve and serve as an avenue for accessing both the tissue damage and traumatic stress response in brain tissue. Bringing regulation in the autonomic nervous system is critical for healing injured brain tissue. Learn ways to help integrate visual function with capacity for memory, as well as motor, auditory, and proprioceptive functions in the orienting response. This work applies to patients with head injuries of all kinds - concussions, strokes, electro-shock therapy, or surgeries. A great opportunity for clinicians who have been introduced to this work in SE training and for both physical care and mental health providers working with these patients.
